She sat alone at her house's table. She was looking down, her nose buried into a book. One hand propped her head up, and then other was clenched tightly around her cell phone. (Indeed, she had a cell phone. This was the 21st century, even wizards had them.) Lex sighed, rereading the same sentence for the 11th time.
"An unhappy alternative is before you, Elizabeth. From this day you must be a stranger to one of your parents. Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins, and I will never see you again if you do."
She sighed again, and closed the book in front of her. She looked up, and saw the Great Hall was slowly beginning to fill with students, all laughing and chattering with their friends. And there Lex was. Alone. Her friends were elsewhere and she had been in the Great Hall, alone, since 6:30 that morning. She'd hoped that Professor McGonagall would be handing out schedules soon, so she could hurry back to her dormitory and catch up on all the sleep she'd missed last night. Just as Lex had let that thought fill her mind, she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned to see the aging witch behind her. "Good morning Miss Kogan." She smiled. "Good morning Professor McGonagall. Do you have my schedule for me?" "Indeed I do." McGonagall handed the crisp paper to Lex, and smiled once more. Lex returned the favor. "Pride and Prejudice" said the professor, "What a lovely book. Jane and I were close friends you know. The whole story was actually based on true events that happened to her. Did you know that?" "I did. We watched the movie, Becoming Jane, last year in Muggle Studies." Lex stated, grabbing the book and slowly standing up. "Hmph." McGonagall scoffed. "Well then. Enjoy the book, my dear. And I'll see you in class." "Goodbye Professor." She nodded and continued to hand out schedules to other students. Lex stood by her seat at her house table, and sighed. She sat back down, and decided to wait until after breakfast to retire to her bed. She was very hungry...

Dali just walked into the Great Hall, looking for Professor Mcgonagall. She wanted to get her schedule and get out. She had some very important sleeping business to get to and sleep usually didn't wait for Dali to do the things she needed to do. Finding that it was hard to see the Headmistress over everyone's heads, Dali instead began walking over to her table, walking beside the Gryffindor table, seeing if she could spot anybody to pick on. Dali was at around the middle to end of the table when she spotted a familiar blonde head. "Oh lookie, a Gryffindor worth talking to!" Dali said, plopping herself down next to Lex. Dali reached out to grab the book in front of Lex to see what she was reading. "Pride and Prejudice? Is this good or something?" Dali wasn't too keen when it came to books. They defiantly were not her friend. Without waiting for an answer Dali dropped the book down on the table, "Well I wouldn't read it anyways. Why are you holding your cell so tightly? Waiting for someone to text you? Is it a lover? Aw, your in love! How cute Lex" Dali placed her hands over her heart and sighed.

Lex smiled at her best friend. "Yes, indeed, Dali. Pride and Prejudice is very good. You of all people should know. I've only read it a million times." She slapped her friend playfully on the arm. The blonde noticed that Dali saw her clenched fist around her cellphone, and quickly loosened her grip. "In love, Dali?" She said, trying to hide all her nervousness behind a fake smile. Lex laughed oddly, and slowly set her phone on the table. "That's absurd." Not quite. "To whom would I give my love, anyways?" Whom? Seriously, Dali should know Lex only uses that word when she's lying through her teeth... She was waiting for a text message, though. A lover, not so much. Well. Partially. She was in desperate need of hearing from James... But it was the first day of school, and most likely he was sleeping in, and she would have to bring him his schedule later. Lex pushed thoughts of her long time crush out of her mind, and continuted to chat with her best friend. "So how was your first night in the Slytherin dorms? Did Albus try to attack you in your sleep again? Or was that Scorpious...Those two are inseparable. Sometimes I just can't tell the difference..." Lex smiled. Wow. She was ranting about her crushes little brother, and his...'special friend'. This was going to be a lonnnnnng year at Hogwarts if she couldn't get the butterflies in her to stomach to hault.

Dali shrugged. "Oh yeah. I remember that book now. You tried to get me to read it" Dali did not read it though. It is somewhere in one of the bottomless trunks in the attic, a place she never visits. Dali bit her bottom lip to keep from laughing. "You know. It's best not to talk like that when you lie. It's so obvious." Dali then smirked, crossing her arms over her chest. "I bet I know who it is. Another Gryffindor no doubt. Another Gryffindor named James?" Dali knew who it was. Too obvious not to know, but even though she does have a bad rep because she's a Slytherin, she still wouldn't go off and tell James or anyone that Lex had a crush on the oldest Potter boy. Dali was Lex's best friend and things like that are out of the question. Dali shrugged her shoulders, leaning on the table while crossing one leg over the other. "Ah it was nice, and last year it was only Albus, this year the two thought it would be nice that both of them gang up on me. It was alright though since it is easy to get them tackled to the floor even though I am only one girl. They still don't believe that I can pummel them into the ground though." Dali laughed, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear.

The blonde smiled nervously at Dali. Then she hastily stuck her tongue out. "You tell him, I hex you." Dali should be scared of that. Everyone knew Lex was one of the smartest girls in their year. Other than Rose Weasley, of course... She could waylay you into the 22nd century with a swish of her wand. But Lex knew Dali would never tell a soul. It was a best friend rule. Lex laughed uncontrobabley at the thought of Dali wrestling two 14 year old boys. Albus she could take, no doubt. But him AND Scorpious?! You'd think Scorpious would use at least SOME of his wits to paralyze her momentarily. You'd think. But it would never happen. "Y-You..took them BOTH? AHAHAHA." But of course, the blonde received many odd stares from fellow Gryffindors, and others who just happened to be walking past. Then her phone vibrated violently on the table. She looked at Dali nervously, before pouncing to grab it.
...Fail.

Dali rolled her eyes playfully. "Okayyy" She smiled and laughed at Lex. She knew that Lex knew that Dali would never tell. Dali smiled proudly, "Of course! The two don't know how to think properly when they're trying to run away from the great Dali. Their fathers would be horrified, beaten by a girl." Dali's prideful smile turned into a grin that could be very much like the Cheshire Cat's. "Oh. I wonder who that is? Lover boy?" Dali laughed at Lex, leaning over so she could read the words on the little screen. "Really who is it?" Dali asked, laying her head on Lex's shoulder. She was thinking about just taking the cell and reading the text, but then Lex would put up a fight and it wouldn't be worth it in the end. She'd still find out what it said.

Lex laughed loudly at the thought of Mr. Potter and Mr. Malfoy smiting their sons' getting thrown to the ground by a girl. Who, by the way, was about half their size. The female smiled and stared at her cellphone. She pressed 'View' and sighed. "Unfortunately, Dali..." She slowly began to reply, "It's not from lover boy. Just my brother." Lex's older brother, Matt, was 21, getting married, and liked to send Lex multiple texts a day, filled with wedding details. She ignored the message, and shut her phone. "Dali, Do you think James thinks I'm weird? Or too smart? I mean... guys don't like girls who know more than them?" Lex layed her head on the table, and sighed. When was breakfast going to start...?

Dali shook her head. "That's boring." She lifted her head from Lex's shoulder and looked at a random person near her and stuck her tongue out, getting a angry face from the person. She could only laugh. "I'm sure James thinks you're just fine. I mean you two are friends, so he doesn't think you weird cause if he did then he wouldn't be your friend. And before you say anything, me thinking you're weird is a totally different thing. I'm allowed to be cruel" Dali smiled at the fact that it was true. It was expected for a Slytherin to be a complete git to anyone 'lesser' than them. "And about the smart thing. Wouldn't that be good for a guy to have a girl smarter than them? I mean then if you were the guy wouldn't you want to laze around and watch quidditch or something? Unless he actually likes to work, but I know James would like to talk about quidditch a lot. I don't know. Ask James if he thinks your too smart. He'll be confused and not have a clue what your talking about." Dali laughed at the image of a confused James. Like a girl's boyfriend when she asks him if the dress she is in makes her look fat. Those are always the funniest of situations. "But anyways. You have no worries. Plenty of guys want to date you so there is a possibility that James wants to date you too...even if you are friends" Dali patted Lex's head lightly.

"Yes, my brother is indeed the most boring person on the planet." The blonde sighed. "Of course you're allowed to think I'm weird... as is Albus, Scorpious, and Rose. But it's different with James..." Lex lifted her head up and watched as Professor McGonagall pranced around the Great Hall, giving everyone a schedule. Lex wondered how in hell she'd ever been able to memorize every child's face. She shook the thought from her mind and turned to face Dali. "You'd think someone like James, especially James, actually... wouldn't like the thought of a girlfriend being smarter than him... But I know James is smart...Either way, I just... Why hasn't he shown interest?" Lex slammed her head back on the table. "Good God, Dali. You must be insane. What boy would want to date me?" The question came out muffled but Lex didn't really care. She had half a mind to run back up to her dormitory, and sleep. But then she heard McGonagall prepare to speak. She heard a very faint "Sonorus" from her, and then a "Students, Welcome back to Hogwarts! A good morning to all of you... I have a very important announcement to make..."

Dali nodded her head, "I would hate to have a sibling." Dali listened to Lex's little problem. She rolled her eyes and frowned. "Merlin, if you don't want to feel better than tell yourself that no one wants you. Okay I don't actually know if people want to date you. I'm only on good terms with you and James and his family that are in Gryffindor. Merlin they have a big family, but anyways." Dali paused to listen to the rest of Lex's rant. she shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe he is freaked out by it, ya know? Some people, I've seen the pathetic people go through this, are afraid of being in love with their friend. It deals with the thing about possibly losing friendship and other crap like that." Dali waved her hand as if throwing the conversation away. "He'll realize he likes you. If he doesn't end up liking you by the end of the year... or next year. I'll hex him for you and portkey the body to Ireland." Dali ignored Mcgonagall when she began to talk until she said announcement. "What could be so important that she has to starve us?"

Lex mentally slapped herself. "You're right." She looked up at her best friend. "Dali. I'm sorry... I'm gonna stop talking about James... He's depressing me." Lex turned her head to Professor McGonagall. "Seriously, can't she feed us?" McGonagall continued to speak, ignoring most of the angry students yelling about the lack of food. "We will be having.." She said, her voice booming over the sea of children. Lex was sure even the Hufflepuff students that were still asleep could hear her, all the way down in the basement. "A Dance." Lex looked at Dali, a smile on her face. "Did you hear that? A dance! Maybe James will-" She shut her mouth. "Maybe someone will ask me." She grinned. McGonagall continued. "This friday. A back to school..." She cleared her throat. "Dance." Let me tell you this for sure, McGonagall did NOT like dances.
At all.

Dali patted Lex's head. "Good girl. I knew you'd find out that it's depressing soon enough" Dali began laughing at Mcgonagall, not loud enough for the headmistress to hear over the loud chatter of the other students of course. "A dance how fun." Dali commented once she stopped laughing. She rested her head in her hand when Mcgonagall cleared her throat, continuing on, looking very unhappy. Dali raised her eyebrows when the headmistress said that the girls would be asking the boys instead of the other way around. "Hey! Opportunity smacked right into your face." Dali playfully pushed Lex's shoulder. "You can ask James instead of him asking you. You won't feel ask worried even though I'm sure that other girls will try to get to him. You better act soon girly" Dali said. She leaned back on the table, smiling. "As for me. I have two people in mind that can't help but go with me, so I'm covered" Dali laughed at Albus and Scorpius who had yet to know that they were being targeted for Dali's dates.

The blondes head shot up when she heard McGonagalls words. "Like...a Sadie Hawkins Dance" She asked aloud. "Precisely." McGonagall smiled, looking at Lex. Creepy. For an old bat, McGonagall had ears like a hawk. Lex looked at Dal. "Are. You. INSANE?" Her eyes widened. "Me? Ask James? Dali, mate, I think you've officially lost it.." Lex snickered at the thought of Dali forcing Albus and Scorpious to be her dates to the dance. It was just HILARIOUS... Lex listened as McGonagall spoke more about the dance. It would be next Saturday night, and this weekend they would be allowed a special trip to Hogsmede to look at dresses, and such. Or they could have there parent's send things to them. ...Lex would DEFINITELY be shopping this weekend...

Dali laughed at Lex. "I am not insane, not completely, but yes! You have to ask James. Isn't this too perfect of a situation anyways?" Dali nearly cheered out loud, but did mutter and rude "finally" when the food appeared on the table. She grabbed what she wanted to eat and set it on her plate. "I'm so hungry. The lady just wanted to make us starve." Dali ranted, mainly talking to herself. "So," Dali bit into a biscuit, " dress shopping at Hogsmede right?" But it came out more like " 'ess 'op'g maht 'og'me'd 'igh?" Dali swallowed the biscuit, smiling at Lex. She was waiting for an answer, not completely aware that her question was distorted by the yummy food.

"A perfect situation..." Lex sighed. "Touche." She started piling food onto her plate and hastily began to eat. She and Dali ate in silence until she heard Dali say something, that sounded like a question, but Lex didn't exactly know how to answer. "Um... Yes?" Lex swallowed some pumpkin juice and nearly let it dribble down her shirt as she saw the Great Hall french doors burst open. "Sorry we're late!" Boomed the raven haired boy. "Did we miss anything?" A few girls snickered, and felt faint. Lex swallowed once again, and wiped her mouth of crumbs. She then quickly reapplied lip gloss. She watched the boy and his carrot top friend (Otherwise known as Rose Weasley) sit across from her and Dali. James oddly looked at Dali. "Aren't you supposed to be at the Slytherin table with my brother?" Then he turned to Lex. "Hey Lex." He smiled. Lex froze. She coughed slightly to regain air, and smiled back. "Hey James."
